About the Presenter Itinerary Registration
Interest in the double-strung harp keeps growing and there are more players now than ever before. If you've been playing on your own this is the ideal chance to meet up with other players and share in the joyous sounds of this instruments. Take this amazing opportunity to learn from one of the instrument's top teachers and virtually get together with players from all over the country to build your niche in the harp community.
This is the in-depth double-strung harp mini-conference you've been waiting for and it's a first for Somerset. Add onto your Somerset weekend. Spend a whole day doing a "Deep Dive" into the Double-strung.
You are already aware that there are many things that you can do on the double that just can't be done on a single-row harp. As a non-beginner double player you've also probably been watching and learning from the extensive line of more than 160 YouTube videos that Carolyn Deal has freely made available. Here's your chance to spend a whole day with Carolyn and get up close and personal coaching and instruction.
Some of the techniques and topics that will be covered during this full day of double-strung harping:
Filigrees and Advanced Filigrees
Tenths Against 1-5-8’s: Ten Permutations
Improv Magic and Composing with Weaving
Feathers for Musicality
Borrowing Hands and more
This all-day add-on is targeted to the non-beginner player who has been playing the double for a while. It will teach you some things not covered in any of the YouTube videos and has the added benefit of being in "live" and in “real-time” through our Somerset Online portal. We want to give the more seasoned double players a premier experience they won't be able to get anywhere else.
If you're an experienced single-row harper who has just purchased a double-strung at the festival you are welcome, just relax and know that many things will “go over your head” but be fun to see and hear. Be advised that this class requires advance sign-up.
By Sunday, if you've been at Somerset all weekend, playing and absorbing information, it's been pretty intensive. So the first part of the Deep Dive is a relaxing break, to what see others are doing and connect with other double-strung harpers. Then the second part is diving into new goodies, which will leave you full of inspiration for your continuing journey with double-strung harp.
Any Prerequisites? You must have your own double-strung harp to attend this workshop. You do not need to be a great music reader for this day but you must be able to do 1-5-8's on both hands. Before the conference, please watch any 10 of Carolyn's short instructional double-strung harp tutorials so that all attendees can have the same frame of reference to start the day. The course handout will be extensive.
10-11:30am: Session 1
11:30am-1pm: Lunch Break!
12pm-12:45pm: Sunday Concert
1-2:30pm: Session 2
2:45-4pm: Session 3
4:15-5pm: Session 4
What to Wear: Please dress comfortably and come ready to play.
What to Bring: Recording device if you want to (although the whole workshop will be recorded and available later for online viewing), music stand would be useful! You're home, so the periodic breaks will give you a chance to go to the bathroom, get a cup of tea and get something to eat.
How do I Attend? Registrants will receive an email invitation to the Zoom meeting room that will admit you. Make sure you're in a comfortable space at home!
Carolyn Deal founded and directed the Southeastern Harp Weekend in Asheville, NC for fourteen years, and is now sharing her discoveries of the vast potential of the Double-Strung harp. Her revolutionary Double-Strung teaching and demo videos are a "must" destination for any double-strung harp player. She says,
I spent years having misconceptions about double-strung harp, and now it has totally changed my life.
Carolyn’s background is in teaching, including teaching her NLP regression hypnosis method to professional therapists, and winning the President's Cup seven years in a row as the most popular Silva Method trainer in the United States. Because of her advanced knowledge of how the brain works, she has a way of teaching that makes things easy. On Double-Strung harp Carolyn can show you ways to sound way more advanced than you are. Novice players can sound beautiful, and advanced players can go far beyond anything they have done before. We have some of her videos below. More are available on her YouTube channel
Double-Strung Deep Dive: Only $100 if you add it to your full festival registration before June 30. You must sign-up in advance for this event.
